Thought of the day

After watching 'Suddenly 30', had this sudden impulse to write a letter to myself ... (am currently fighting a horrible cold- feeling awful with the sniffles,  feverish, sore throat and ear aches...)

Dear Self,

1. Most holiday trips are absolutely awful when you're on it, feels like a living hell especially when you're living in a suitcase. Remember to bring adequate skincare and beauty products- nothing looks worse than a red, raw, peeling face... Remember to bring enough clothing, ones that can survive a tumble dryer. When a merino wool knit says 'no tumble dry', please to heed the advice. I have ruined many a knit due to my reckless defiance...

2. First impressions do count so always be on your best behaviour.

3. Don't procrastinate (which is exactly what I'm doing now, apparently there are a number of assessments to complete). Get it over and done with- with studies, commitments, work. 今日事,今日畢

4. Be nice to yourself. Don't over-think, over-analyse, over-worry. Don't give yourself medical diagnoses, you are not qualified to do so yet. At one point in my life, I thought had a borderline personality disorder, avoidant personality disorder, dependant personality disorder... Though, others have commented I'm more of an OCPD (personally, do not agree as I'm quite chilled and carefree in most aspects of my life)

5.  If you have a question, ask! There is nothing worse than a burning question and you trying to make up for the inadequacies in your knowledge.

6. Makeup is nice. Please don't cake it on. I know you like the whole 'fair' look but alas, you are not a maiko/geisha. Do not go 4-5 shades lighter than your natural skin, and do bring the foundation down to the neck. It takes a good friend with good intentions to tell you the truth that you look like a 'zebra' (on that particular day, I was in a black and white knit, hence the analogy...) Hospital lights are unfairly harsh and highlight every single flaw. Avoid fragranced products. Proper cleansing at the end of the day is absolutely essential. Double cleansing with a cleansing oil is needed to prevent cosmetic acne.A good base is the perfect canvas for makeup.

7. Things don't seem so bad in hindsight. Everything is always is dramatised in the heat of the moment .

8. Appreciate life and those around you. Sometimes, there is only one opportunity to say it. So say it. There isn't always a second chance in life. Carpe diem! Smell the roses (figuratively, not literally, you have allergies)! Be thankful for everything you have, stop whining and complaining... Don't let others get you down...

9. Unfortunately Prince Charmings/ Knights in Shining Armour/ Heroes do not exist in reality. Instead of waiting for one to save you, you should go ahead and do the dirty work yourself. Those who say they are the incarnations of such perfect beings are liars or those who you think are the incarnations of such perfect beings will disappoint in the end...

10. Most things are easier said than done.

To be continued...

Regards,

LG
